around the state of california gathered to pay their respects today to the fallen sheriff's deputy jim addison. this was the scene earlier today hundreds of people lined up for the procession before the funeral. it all took place at the marin veterans auditorium in san raphael. he was gunned down two weeks ago, officials say that the off-duty deputy went to a friend's home to help out in a domestic dispute. he was killed during a confrontation. as teresa estacio reports he was remembered as a fun-loving guy who loved to help out anyone in need. [music] >> filling up the auditorium, hunters came out to honor the fallen officer. >> if there was a man who hoses children and highest bracket of his love, and his wife, his way of life his job, and is home. >> as we know, this is

investigators said that the shooter was seen driving a vehicle similar to this one, it was described as a turquoise color ford windstar minivan model year 2001, or higher. crime stoppers is offering a reward of $25,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case. his wife told kron4 hazzig manyud that she is also pleading for those responsible to come forward. >> this was a shirt, this is all i have left of him is his favorite shirt. >> she tightly clutch as her husband's favorite shirt as the grieving widow is still visibly traumatized following the recent murder of her husband paris powell also known as brother john. she says that she wants to know who killed him. >> if you know anything please come forth. >> oakland police said a brother john was recently killed by an unknown gunman was appalled family including the two young children were passing out free fish dinners to the

homeless on seventh avenue. this marks the location with a drive-by shooting occurred. his wife is pleading with the person responsible to come forward so that her family can move on. >> will the person that did this please come forward, so that our family can rest and we can honor my husband's memory for the true man of god that he was for that kind of passive person that he was. --for the kind in passionate person he was. >> 77 year-old joseph naso is accused of killing for northern california women between 1977 and 1994. all the victims have the same first and last initials. naso says that he cannot afford an attorney currently he is representing himself however the prosecutors say that he has $1 million in assets which disqualifies him from any publicly funded

assistance. a firefighter injured his hand during a one alarm fire in oakland they say he cut his hand on glass while trying to enter the building his injury was serious enough to require a day trip to the hospital no other injuries were reported, the building was unoccupied at the time. >> new details, bay area at chevron is reporting huge profit in excess of $7.7 billion for the second quarter alone, of their earnings were all up from one year ago fuelled by high oil and gasoline prices the announcement today is the latest in a string of massive profits that are being reported in the industry. huge gains are being boosted by the high oil prices in nearly three years. we have a closer look at chevron numbers. >> their second quarter profits surged to more than $7.7 billion, a 43% jump in

quarterly profit and they posted earnings of $385 per share significantly more than what analysts predicted of about 356. revenue is up more than 30% from the same quarter one year ago. in 2010, chevron reported second quarter profits at $5.4 billion. in san francisco on of latino with kron4 news. >> meanwhile california consumers are seeing higher prices at the pump. ricky a six week streak of declines. the energy department reports that gasoline prices are up almost 25 in the past week to a statewide average read dollars and 815. and into vegas, southeast california they are all over the place. the subtropical moisture is wrapping around an area of high pressure as this happens, it tends to shift towards the bay area if we could get high date thunderstorms in the south bay. they will start at about 10,000 ft.. as the rain comes down to the atmosphere is just too dry, we do not see any rain out of it, but we certainly see lightning. that is a possibility tomorrow but more likely sunday afternoon as well as monday afternoon. for the rest of the bay area, fog will be the story. take a look at the north bay and the same as for these bayshores and the peninsula as well as the coastline. stealing back to san francisco by 9:00 a.m. and continuing to hug the coast line, and will not see that sunshine and it does not look like to see it tomorrow. it looks like it is pretty worn down in the south bay. 88 in morgan hill, 83 in san jose, 85 and

officer named sanchez outside of the west bart station his attorney told us that all started when a bart officer told him to turn down the music coming from his cell phone. >> his phone rang, he havering tony goes off, and missed a long answer the phone. the officer came over and told them to turn off his phone. he turned down the rain tone and the phone goes off again it starts to play, the officer tells him to completely power off his phone. mr. long is a little surprise, but he complies in says i will leave the bart system i will go and take the bus home. to his surprise after leaving the station the officer pulled up on him, gets out of her car and starts yelling at him in proceeds to start hitting him with her nightstick. he is completely shocked and surprised he did not believe this is happening to him he tries to defend himself from the blows and get hit all crosses arm, hand, and across his body. >> police eventually arrive

on the scene and arrested him, he spent two days in jail and received a ticket he has since filed a lawsuit bart officials say they will not comment on the matter until they're actually served. coming up tonight on our news at 6:00 p.m. we will talk with him and hear about his injuries and recovery. >> police arrest two more men in a san jose murder, they say it when olivia and francisco garcia stabbed a young man to death back in may. another suspect juan cortez is also accused in the murder they believe it is gang-related. >> this just in, we are above the scene of a high- speed chase that just ended in oakland. take a look at that, that is where the police were able to finally pull over that car. the initial leak spotted the car before 5:00 p.m. in the area at international boulevard and 70 second ave. the

police ran the place and determine the suspect in the car was wanted with a deadly weapon they tried to pull the car over, they went north bound on 880. the passenger and suspect were eventually taken into custody the high-speed chase is now over, if we get more details we will certainly bring them to you we are live in the newsroom i am grant lotus with kron4 news. >> an update on the legal battle over same-sex marriage in california. for a court will decide whether sponsors over the same-sex marriage ban can appeal overturning the measure. it was voted back in 2008 recognizing merit only between a man and woman, a federal judge struck that down saying it violated the constitution in september, the california supreme court will hear arguments on whether the appeal is allowed on stay long.

today's the first day of training camp for the san francisco 49ers the team made some big changes in the off-season hopes are high that they can improve on last year's record. >> normally by this time of year, 49ers players are studying playbooks and attending a manager cams for a good portion of the off season, before the 49ers today is day one, the off- season labor dispute drama kept the players from preparing with their coaches and teammates as they would have during a normal year, the biggest change for the 49ers this year is the head coach position mike singletary is out and jim is in. he brought with him new assistant coaches as well as new offensive in defense of playbooks. players have not been able to see them till just recently. >> the only thing that did not like about was not getting to meet the new

locations as we head into tomorrow we have a threat of thunderstorms in the south bay. take a look at the storm tracker, thunderstorms going over the sierra also southeast california and into vegas. the subtropical moisture could wraparound and click the south bay as we head into tomorrow but more likely into sunday and monday. this of tropical moisture is coming up and wrapped it around the area of high pressure over the four corners, this will continue into monday afternoon. it looks like we will see some thunderstorms into sunday i will talk more about this in the temperatures coming up in just a little bit. >> things are getting a little stinky in the south bay stinky in a good and delicious way. this weekend is the gilroy garlic festival jeff bush is live to show us some of the dramatic excitement. >> that is right, take a look. you can see the chef, he is cooking palomar. ask him if they make the flames

on the golden gate bridge no problems on this friday, the traffic is moving well in all directions and now in san francisco, the only real back up that is that it's at the top of your screen that is 80 headed towards the lower deck of the bay bridge it is slow at the bottom, south bound 101 but not nearly as that headed toward the bridge. as we will be back. it's really delicious, mom.

of being a traitor. he was in moammar gadhafi government before defecting to the rebel movement. there is concern that there may be more friction between opposition leaders. thousands of people gathered in cairo today supposedly making a united stand against the military government but it did not play out that way there was a lot of friction between conservative muslims and liberal activist. the conservatives were in the majority shouting against any western influence. earth will be home to 7 billion people by the end of the year. most of the growth will happen in developing countries this is according to a new article in the latest issue of science magazine growth has been very dramatic and fast moving it was just in 1999 that the global population reached 6 billion. stay with us, more news after the break. >ú

while, the lifeguards told people to stay out of the water. >> we have a number of rescues going on put your feet down, and walked out of the ocean. >> a couple people that out there and the kind of snowballed. >> i think everyone was concerned because they got on the system and made the announcement and everyone was scared. >> case say that a hurricane of the mexican coast may be to blame for all of the recurrence but no one was seriously injured. in northern california a 40 ft. gray whale is attracting a lot of people, the reason it is hanging out in the river, the large mammals showed up about one month ago scientists are trying to find a way to lure him back into the pacific ocean so far it will not leave. biologists are monitoring his health, they suspect it will leave when the food supply runs dry. while life rescuers are trying to corral to young sea lions that have been spotted with

wires wrapped dangerously around the necks, so far the marine mammal system has made four unsuccessful attempts to capture the animals and remove what appears to be fishing lines. rescuers in small boats have frightened away the sea lions, it could lead to infections if they cut deep into the skin, or the entanglements could slowly strangled our star of the sea lions as they grow larger officials are worried that the rescue attempt could stress the animals tightening the entanglement. >> and other fog the night on tap as we head into tomorrow we will see dense fog for the coastline and will also see some dense fog for the bayshores. temperatures in the '50s to start the day, pushing to the coastline and by noon that is where it was day into the 4:00 p.m. hour we will see temperatures on the warm side not super hot. 85 livermore, 83 san jose as some high clouds streaming through the south bay. the reason subtropical moisture

that is sparking thunderstorms in the sierra. yosemite is seeing some pretty severe thunderstorms and edging up near lake tahoe take a wider view of what is going on uc plenty of activity along the sierra, we see it in utah, arizona. this is wrapped around an area of high pressure in the four corners it is possible we could see this of tropical moisture clipped the south bay mountains into mostly sunday there is a slight chance out there tomorrow that is when we will see some high clouds increasing but it is mostly into sunday that we have the threat of high based thunderstorms. so, it does not look like we will see it hit the ground, it will probably evaporates before it hits the ground, but they are hitting off quite a few lightning strikes over the sea area and california--

over the sierra and california. here are your temperatures, now into the inland valleys temperatures may be in the '80s, but 90 degrees in pleasanton. '60s and '70s for these bayshores, 65 berkeley, 79 fremont 67 and san francisco out there tomorrow, 81 redwood city. of course the 60 for the coastline. a mixture of '70s and '80s for the north bay. a quick look at your kron4 seven day around the bay forecast. dry lightning sunday and into monday that is mainly for the south bay higher terrain. as we head into next week we will see it warm up and then it will cool down towards the end of the week as the dense fog returned to the forecast. >> this just in to the kron4 newsroom, the debt ceiling debacle, it continues. we told you earlier that the house republicans passed a
